Hello and welcome,

my name is Paolo Mondola, and I am a professional archaeologist and licensed tourist guide (License No. 1792, Campania Region).

I was born and raised in the heart of the Bay of Naples, in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, surrounded by some of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world. Since childhood, I have been fascinated by history and archaeology, especially because I grew up close to the ancient cities of Herculaneum Archaeological Park and Pompeii Archaeological Park.

As a child, I spent countless hours exploring these remarkable sites, amazed by the achievements of the Greek and Roman civilizations. What began as a passion eventually became my profession, leading me to pursue a career as both an archaeologist and a licensed tour guide.

I graduated from L’Orientale University of Naples with a Master’s Degree in Classical Archaeology, graduating cum laude. During my academic training, I participated in several archaeological excavations at Pompeii and Cumae, gaining valuable field experience that continues to enrich my work today.

Over the years, I have developed an extensive knowledge not only of Pompeii and Herculaneum, but also of Naples, whose historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Phlegraean Fields, Paestum Archaeological Park, and the stunning Amalfi Coast, including Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello.

This region is truly unique. Here, history, archaeology, breathtaking landscapes, and centuries-old traditions come together to create an unforgettable experience. It is also the birthplace of some of Italy’s most famous cultural symbols, including the world-renowned Pizza Margherita.

I created PompeiiwithArchaeologist with the goal of offering high-quality private tours without intermediaries, providing direct contact with a professional archaeologist and licensed guide. After more than ten years of experience in the tourism and cultural heritage sector, I decided to develop this project to share my knowledge and passion with travelers from around the world.

My mission

My mission is to help visitors discover the extraordinary heritage of the Bay of Naples through engaging, educational, and personalized experiences.

I guide guests through places with more than two thousand years of history, including Pompeii, Herculaneum, Stabiae, Oplontis, Naples, and many other remarkable archaeological and historical sites.

These places preserve the legacy of civilizations that profoundly influenced the development of Western culture. Dominating the landscape is Mount Vesuvius, one of the world’s most famous active volcanoes, whose eruption in AD 79 preserved Pompeii and Herculaneum in an unparalleled state of conservation.

All my tours are private tours, never group tours.
